Webcam and mic test
Check camera and microphone together the way a call uses them: one prompt, a short rehearsal, and a checklist of what to fix before you join.
Your browser will ask for the camera and the microphone — once
One prompt for both. Everything is analysed on this device and is never uploaded.

What we measured
| Readings appear here once the test is running. |
Short answer
To test camera and mic together, press Start, allow both in one prompt and run the 10-second rehearsal while talking normally. The checklist shows video smoothness, light, voice level and background noise; play back the clip to see and hear what others will.
What to fix
- One device works, the other does not Pick the right camera and microphone on the dedicated webcam and mic tests, then come back.
- Dark or choppy video Face a window or a lamp; low light lowers the frame rate.
- Voice too quiet or clipping Adjust the input level so speech peaks sit between −18 and −6 dBFS.
- Background noise Close windows, move away from fans, or use a headset microphone. The rehearsal estimates noise from its quietest moments; the mic test gives a precise reading.
Questions
How do I test my camera and microphone at the same time?
Press Start, allow camera and microphone in one prompt, and run the rehearsal. The checklist covers both.
Will people in my next meeting see this rehearsal?
No. The rehearsal never joins a call: the clip is held in this tab until you download it or close the tab.
Why does it work here but not in my call app?
The call app may be set to a different device, or the system may block that app. Check the app's audio and video settings and the system privacy settings.
Does this test my internet connection for the call?
No. It checks the camera and microphone on your side of the call. Call apps re-encode video and adapt it to the network, so a smooth rehearsal here means your devices are ready; connection problems show up only in the call itself.
Can it tell if my voice is out of sync with my video?
Not yet. Play back the rehearsal clip and watch your lips on hard sounds like “p” and “b”: a lag you can see is worth fixing before the call.
The light check says the picture is bright, but my face looks dark. Why?
The reading is the average brightness of the whole picture, so a window or a white wall behind you lifts it while your face stays in shadow. Put the light in front of you and use the reading to compare setups in the same room, like lamp on against lamp off.
Also check before the call
- Webcam test real frame rate, resolution and light for the camera alone.
- Mic test a precise background-noise reading and the browser's voice processing.
How this stays on your device
The rehearsal happens entirely in this tab: camera frames and microphone samples are measured here, and the clip stays in memory until you save it or close the tab.
